Day 1: Cusco – Qoriccocha(Golden Lake) –Huchuy Qosqo

We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 6 a.m for our Huchuy Qosqo Trek to Machu Picchu. And take you 30 minutes outside of Cusco to the Huilcapata village (3,500 meters), where our personal chef will prepare breakfast for us in one of the local family houses.

We’ll begin hiking uphill for one hour and a half until we get to the first pass (4,050 meters), where we will have spectacular views of valleys and the beautiful Lake Qoriccocha( Golden Lake) then take a long break. Then we’ll hike for one more hour until we stop for lunch at Qoricocha Lodge.

After lunch we’ll have free time to see the Qori Qocha Lagoon and Llamas.

We’ll continue to the second pass; it’s about forty-five minutes from the Qoricoha Lodge, then we walk for 3 hours following the original Inca Trail (balcony of the incas) to Huchuy Qosqo, where we will be able to see the Sacred valley, the Urubamba river, and more. Once we reach the Inca Trail, we’ll pass through an adobe Inca gateway, and finally arrive at the Huchuy Qosqo (Little Cusco – 3,600 meters) campsite at around 5:00PM, and by 7:30PM your dinner will be ready. After dinner, you can finally get some well-deserved rest.

  • Accommodations: Camping
  • Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Distance:11km/6.8 miles

Day 2: Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay – Salt Mine– Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

We’ll wake you up with a cup of coca tea, and when you are packed, we will enjoy a tasty breakfast. We’ll begin our walking tour, and explore Huchuy Qosqo for about two hours, and you’ll have some additional time to explore the site on your own.

Our Huchuy Qosqo hike to Machu Picchu will lead us downhill to the Sacred Valley. It’ll then take about two and a half hours to get to the village of Lamay (2,800 meters) on the Urubamba River, where we will have lunch with the Quinoa Expeditions staff.

After lunch and a goodbye ceremony, we’ll drive an hour and a half to the salt mines of Maras, there we will have time for the explanations about this important attraction, and then we’ll drive you to Ollantaytambo, where we’ll explore the “living Inca town.” We will have dinner in a restaurant before taking the 7 p.m. train to Aguas Calientes, where we’ll find our hotels, with hot water and wifi.

  • Accommodations: Hotel 3*
  • Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Distance:5km/3.1miles

Day 3: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco.

Machu Picchu is the most important part of our Huchuy Qosqo trek, so we suggest waking up early to get on one of the first buses up to the top. These buses are all first come, first serve, and begin departing at 5:30am. Once we get up to the citadel, your tour guide will take you to a great spot to watch the sunrise over the mountains (weather permitting). Following that, you’ll begin your two-hour tour around the citadel, and after the tour, you’ll have some time to wander on your own, with the options of climbing Huayna Picchu (this is a separate entrance ticket and costs $75 per person), or Machupicchu Mountain (also $ 75 per person). Both options have breathtaking views. After you have taken in all of Macchu Picchu, you’ll return back down to Aguas Calientes on your own by park buses, and enjoy some lunch in the town, before boarding your train to Ollantaytambo. Once you arrive in Ollantaytambo, you’ll board a tourist van and return to Cusco at approximately 8 p.m.
